This world famous dive site really does live up to its reputation. It’s a completely submerged pinnacle in the shape of a horse shoe. The pinnacle is made of limestone so the rock is full of cracks and small caves; it’s also mostly covered in soft corals and anemones. The rock itself is oddly enough an almost purple colour and the soft corals growing on it are a light purple and yellow, which makes this one of the most spectacular underwater landscapes in the world!
Since there is not much else surrounding Richelieu Rock this site attracts a lot of different species. Here you can, with a bit of luck, see schooling chevron barracudas, schooling bigmouth mackerels, hunting tunas, seahorses, zebra, whiteeyed and giant morays, ghostpipefish, nudibranchs, tomato anemone fish, harlequin shrimps and much much more.
And on the days when the gods are on our side, we get the odd whaleshark swimming past…
